DVD-quality video for mobile devices
|
|
The i.MX27 multimedia processor introduced by Freescale Semiconductor enhances video, graphics and connectivity for mobile devices by combining a 400MHz ARM9 CPU with a multimedia hardware accelerator capable of DVD-quality output at 720 x 480 screen resolution. |
The hardware accelerator
and ARM CPU share
processing loads efficiently,
and are combined with a
crossbar switch to allow high clock
speeds while conserving power for
extended battery life. The hardware
multimedia-processing features include
MPEG4, H.263 and H.264 D1 codecs,
enabling high-resolution video performance.
There are several power-saving features
that support use in battery-operated devices,
including dynamic voltage and frequency
scaling using Freescale’s Dynamic Process
Temperature Compensation (DPTC). DPTC
can save up to 50 percent on power
consumption.
The i.MX27 also
offers a variety
of power-saving
modes, giving
designers the
ability to make
trade-offs
between power
consumption in
stand-by and
recovery times.
Among other
features
essential for mobile,
networked devices, the i.MX27
implements an advanced security
architecture to guard against threats
including malicious service attacks, cloning
and unauthorised accessing of private data.
