Low-voltage motor-drive ICs simplify power-supply design
|
|
International Rectifier has introduced a family of combined high-side and lowside drivers, rated to 200V for halfbridge motor-drive applications from 24V to 100V. |
Their low quiescent current reduces overall cost
and footprint by eliminating the need for an
auxiliary power supply.
The IRS200x family can be used to drive power
MOSFETs or IGBTs, and are able to provide gatedrive
voltage from 10V to 20V, turn-on current of
290mA, and turn-off current of 600mA. The control
circuitry is directly compatible with CMOS and TTL
signals at 3.3V, 5V or 15V, enabling further savings
in external components.
Three types of driver are offered in 8-pin SOIC or
DIP packages, allowing designers to meet a range
of functional and manufacturing requirements. The
IRS2001 has independent high-side and low-side
inputs, while the IRS2003 combines independent
inputs with dead-time protection. The IRS2004 has
dead-time protection and also provides a
Shutdown pin.
Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO) protection is a
standard feature with all devices. In addition, a highpulse-
current output buffer minimises driver crossconduction,
while floating-channel design allows
direct drive of an N-channel high-side MOSFET or
IGBT operating from 10V to 200V.
