Transmitter and receiver cut cost of SERCOS data links



 

Avago Technologies offers a fibre-optic transmitter and receiver supporting SErial Realtime COmmunications Systems (SERCOS) up to 16Mbaud over Plastic Optical Fibre (POF) or Hard-Clad Silica (HCS) for cost-sensitive industrial infrastructures.


The HFBR-1506AMZ transmitter incorporates a 650nm LED with high light-output power enabling the use of either 1mm POF or 200µm HCS. The temperature coefficient of optical power is -0.02dB/°C, ensuring predictable performance in a variety of industrial environments.

The HFBR-2506AMZ receiver operates from a 5.5V supply and produces a logic-compatible output. It also includes a unique circuit to correct Pulse-Width Distortion (PWD) of the first bit after a long idle period. This enables operation from DC to 16MBaud with low PWD for arbitrary data patterns.

Both the transmitter and receiver are coated with a layer of conductive alloy for enhanced ESD performance, and are compatible with SMA connectors.
