Alternative to supercapacitors delivers high capacitance at low ESR
|
|
Cooper Bussmann has introduced ultra-high-value capacitors up to 1.5F for memory and Real-Time Clock (RTC) back-up, which have significantly lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) than existing supercapacitors or Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLCs). |
The PowerStor® KR series capacitors are
5.5V-rated devices that display ultra-low
leakage current to maintain stored
charge for long periods. Low leakage
also minimises battery-drain in portable
equipment. The high capacitance values
of the KR series enable critical equipment
functions to continue or to be completed
in a controlled manner during battery
swap-out or mains failure.
The new capacitors use carbon aerogel
technology to achieve energy density
greater than 10J/cm3. There are eighteen
devices in the KR series, which comprises 0.1F,
0.22F, 0.33F, 0.47F, 1.0F and 1.5F capacitors in
cylindrical, horizontal-mount and verticalmount
coin-cell-style packages. Sizes range
from 11.5mm diameter and 5mm thickness to
21.5mm diameter and 7.5mm thickness.
