Bus-controlled switch matrix enhances video fidelity
|
|
The ON Semiconductor NCS6416 is a video switch matrix optimised for low output impedance, high output current and high linearity, to achieve video switching comparable to studio-quality signals. |
The NCS6416 features an 8-input, 6-output
switch matrix, which allows any single input to
be connected to several outputs. Each output
may be switched to only one of the inputs. In
addition each input can be used as a normal
input, or as a chroma input if used with an
external resistor bridge. The
switching configuration is
controlled via the I2C
interface provided, which
allows high-speed control of
video routing using an
external controller. Each new
configuration is implemented
across the I2C bus by
communicating only the
changed output channels, to
minimise bus traffic and
ensure fast switching.
An external Programming
pin allows two devices to be
operated in parallel and
selected independently
through the I2C bus. This allows designers to
double the signal capacity of a single NCS6416,
or to cascade two devices for extra flexibility.
