Optical transceiver supports robust Byteflight networking

Avago Technologies has introduced the SPF BFT 003 03 bidirectional optical transceiver for use with Plastic Optical Fibre (POF). Data transmission rates up to 10Mbaud are supported, in halfduplex burst mode.

The transceiver supports logic-to-light and light-tologic conversion in a single component, featuring a built-in transmitter/receiver gate for mutual blocking in half-duplex mode. Pulsewidth detection for indicating sync, alarm and continuous light-on conditions is also built in.

The SPF BFT 003 03 is optimised for use with the Byteflight automotive optical data-bus for safetycritical applications. High reliability, full product traceability, and the 6-pin Cavity-As-Interface (CAI) package for easy coupling with POF allow direct use in Byteflight systems. The transceiver is able to operate from a 5V or 8V-to-11V supply, which allows easy integration into automotive electrical environments.
