Low-noise regulator combines linear and switched-mode benefits
|
|
The Micrel MIC38300 combines the efficiency of switched-mode conversion with the fast transient response and low output ripple of a linear regulator, to supply low-voltage FPGAs, ASICs and other digital ICs requiring up to 3A peak current. |
From an input voltage of 3.0V to 5.5V, the
MIC38300 produces a programmable output
of 1.0V to 5.0V with less than 5mV peak-topeak
noise. Transient performance is
equivalent to typical high-speed LDOs, with
less than 30mV of output voltage deviation
including during fast load changes.
The MIC38300 also
achieves 70dB Power
Supply Rejection Ratio
(PSRR). In addition,
high operating
efficiency simplifies
thermal management
and reduces heatsink
size.
The MIC38300 is
housed in a 4mm x
6mm x 0.9mm 28-pin
MLF® package,
allowing an entire POL
solution to be built
inside less than 40mm2
with no external inductor required.
A dedicated pin allows adjustment of the
switching frequency, to optimise output
ripple without losing efficiency.
