Minimalist solution for input voltages up to 24V

The Exar SP6125 is a PWM-controlled step-down voltage-mode regulator featuring internal Type-II compensation to save component-count when using a tantalum or electrolytic output capacitor.

Type III compensation for ceramic output capacitors is also easily implemented with minimal external compensation components.

Further reduction of external components is achieved through provision of input-voltage feed-forward and an on-chip 0.6V reference, allowing the PWM control signal to be generated internally. The output voltage is programmable down to 0.6V via an external pin. By integrating a PMOS driver, the SP6125 is capable of operating at 100% duty cycle to minimise power consumption in low dropout conditions.

Designed for single-supply operation from 4.5V to 29V, the SP6125 is suitable for use in 5V, 12V and 24V applications. In addition to the SP6125’s valuable savings in external components, the space-saving 6-pin TSOT package makes this the smallest controller available capable of operating from 24V DC supplies.
