Wide input range and fast dynamic response ease design, save cost
|
|
The MCP1612 from Microchip is a 1.0A, 1.4MHz synchronous buck regulator optimised for use with single-cell Li-ion batteries, multiple alkaline batteries or NiMH cells, as well as 5.0V DC and 3.3V DC bus voltages. |
The output voltage is set between 0.8V and
5.0V using external resistors.
Fixed-frequency operation over the entire
load range, using an internal clock, simplifies
filter design and allows the use of a small
external inductor and capacitor to save PCB
footprint. Fast dynamic response, using
current-mode control, further
reduces demand for external
load capacitance to maximise
savings in cost and physical
size. In addition, the MCP1612
is stable when used with lowercost
ceramic capacitors as well
as with larger tantalum and
electrolytic capacitors.
As a further advantage, the
MCP1612’s integrated control
and sync-FET switches
eliminate the need for an
external Schottky diode and
improve efficiency.
