Full-featured regulators optimise power-supply design
The PowerWise® family of synchronous buck regulators, from National Semiconductor, provide high-efficiency DC-DC power conversion for point-of-load applications.
Synchronous operation with integrated FETs enhance efficiency at high load currents, and a diode emulation mode provides high efficiency at light loads. As well as integrating FETs, the 16-lead TSSOP package features a full range of features and options that enable enhanced system reliability and optimised power solutions.
Sync-in allows synchronisation of the device to an external clock source and sync-out provides for current sharing or multi-phase operation. A high-accuracy current limit with over-voltage and under-voltage protection provides enhanced system reliability. External compensation allows optimisation for the required output capacitor and inductor.
The 16-lead TSSOP package, with integrated FET, saves board space by requiring only a 1µH inductor. When powering multiple points-of-load, precision enable allows different PowerWise devices to be sequenced to create a small, efficient and flexible DC-DC power conversion. The PowerWise® family of low-voltage devices is available with an input voltage range from 2.95V to 5.5V, and supports up to 5A loads. The LM20242 PowerWise® device offers an input voltage range from 4.5V to 36V, and supports up to 2A loads from an eTSSOP-20 package.
