Rugged, user-friendly and sterilisable medical-grade connectors

Medical CPC connectors, from Tyco Electronics, are rugged, user-friendly and sterilisable medical-grade circular plastic connectors for use in applications such as surgical power instruments, RF and ultrasound ablation, and EP monitors used in the operating room.

These cost-effective connectors are available with 5, 6, 7 or 10 contact positions, and feature a robust self-latching mechanism which is secure under axial and torsional loads.

Medical CPC connectors feature an ergonomic grip area with a tactile push-pull action, gold-plated contacts for optimum connection performance, an enhanced latch release mechanism and a lightweight housing which is resistant to shock, drop and chemically-induced cracking.

The essential visual coding of matching plug and receptacle pairs can be achieved using coloured cable plug components and receptacle bevels. Sterilisation is possible by Autoclave and EtO techniques and by STERRAD and CIDEX+ disinfectants.

Unlike other offerings, the Medical-CPC cable-plug and the cable itself can be seamlessly integrated with a silicone over-molding in a single step for cable strain and flex protection in a demanding environment. This can be achieved without prior potting or sealing that introduce complexity and cost to the process.

Medical-CPC connectors can accommodate cables with outside diameters from 2.7mm up to 6.5mm, voltage ratings of 300VAC, current ratings from 3A up to 7A (depending on the number of contact positions), durability of 2500 mating cycles and an operating temperature range from -50°C up to 170°C.
