4A to 14A POLs share footprint for simplified layout
The IR38xx family of step-down POL
regulators, available from 4A to 14A, share
a common package outline that allows
designers to save cost and time-to-market
by using a common board layout for
multiple designs
International Rectifier’s IR38xx series of
SupIRBuck™ regulators combines IR’s trench
MOSFET technology with synchronous-buck
control circuitry in a compact 5mm by 6mm
Power QFN package. This footprint is 70% smaller
than discrete solutions, while full-load efficiency is
up to 10% higher than competing monolithic ICs.
The package is thermally enhanced and
has a profile of 0.9mm, enabling backside
mounting in space-constrained applications.
The output voltage is from
0.6V to 12V, operating over a
wide input-voltage range from
2.5V to 21V. Common features
include pre-bias start-up, fixed
600kHz switching frequency,
hiccup-mode short-circuit
protection, thermal shutdown,
and precise output-voltage
regulation. Optional features
include tracking capability for
generation of memory
termination voltage, a
programmable power-good
indicator, and 300kHz switching
frequency for higher output
current.
