Small-outline buck converter boosts efficiency and accuracy

ON Semiconductor has introduced a surface-mount DC/DC buck converter capable of operating from 5V-12V and producing a ±1% accurate output voltage as low as 0.8V.

With integrated high-side and low-side FETs displaying on-resistance of less than 10mΩ, the converter achieves better than 90% operating efficiency.

The NCP3102 can sustain 10A continuous output, allowing designers to achieve high power density, and integrates key features to further reduce overall system size and cost. These include an internal 275kHz oscillator and 0.8V precision voltage reference. There is also an externallycompensated transconductance error amplifier, for feedback and loop stabilisation.

In addition, programmable features enhance flexibility with minimum impact on footprint.

The programmable current limit for shortcircuit protection is adjusted by selecting external resistors, and the programmable soft-start characteristic is optimised by means of an external capacitor.

FEATURES
  • 40-pin, 6mm x 6mm QFN package
  • Boost pin operational to 25V
  • Voltage-mode PWM control
  • 80% maximum duty cycle
  • Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO) protection
APPLICATIONS
  • Server systems
  • Networking equipment
  • Processor or FPGA power supplies
  • Voltage regulator modules
