1MHz buck converter exceeds 90% efficiency

The MIC22600 integrated synchronous buck converter from Micrel achieves more than 90% efficiency while switching at 1MHz. High-frequency operation allows the use of a small 1µH inductor and 47µF output capacitor for a low-cost, lowfootprint solution.

The MIC22600 is rated for 6A continuous output current, and implements a high-speed control loop to ensure close regulation of output voltage even with the extreme transient-load voltage swings common to FPGAs and lowvoltage ASICs. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.7V to address all low-voltage power needs.

Extra functions include windowed or delayed sequencing, as well as normal or ratiometric tracking options.

A Ramp Control™ pin is also provided, which uses a current source to allow precise tracking of MIC22xxx or MIC68xxx regulators at start-up.

The MIC22600 is available in a 24-pin 4mm x 4mm MLF® package. Thermal performance is equivalent to that of larger TSSOP packages, allowing the MIC22600 to operate over an extended temperature range from -40°C to 125°C.
