Motor drivers with protection circuitry deliver all-round savings
Rohm Electronics has introduced a
range of transistors for use in solenoid,
motor and relay drivers, which
implement essential protection
features internally to save cost,
footprint and component count.
The DTDG series transistors integrate a zener
diode to absorb damaging back-EMF surges
induced when driving inductive loads, thereby
saving external circuitry. By also implementing
internal input resistors, the relays can be driven
directly from the controller IC. Available variants
implement either a single base-emitter resistor
or twin-resistor network including a seriesconnected
input resistor.
Other valuable properties
include high DC-current gain,
which allows use with a wide
variety of loads, and low collector-emitter
saturation voltage for low
losses and low heat dissipation.
Two types of surface-mount
packages are available, including
the MPT3 SOT-89 package with a
total profile of 1.5mm and the
TSMT6 dual inline package with a
profile of 0.85mm.
