Digital camera design interfaces directly to Ethernet
NXP Semiconductors has announced a
digital camera reference design using
its Nexperia PNX1502 media processor
to output digital images directly to
Ethernet using Internet Protocol.
The reference design combines the PNX1502’s
media-processing and network-interface
capabilities with digital-camera peripherals
including DDR SDRAM, on-board Flash
memory, UDA1380 audio codec and an
Ethernet PHY. The design also includes the
CMOS image sensor. The entire IP camera
can be implemented within the Mini-PCI
form factor, enabling easy system
integration using industry-standard
interfaces.
The reference design takes advantage of
high-quality software-video capabilities in
the Nexperia PNX15xx media processor
family, including multi-standard digital-video
decoder/encoder and image improvement
functions. Integrated video co-processor
modules accelerate scaling and compositing
without adding to CPU overhead.
Nexperia also includes embedded signal
processing for audio, as well as general-purpose
control-processing features. The abundance of
on-chip industry-standard interfaces is a further
powerful factor allowing the PNX15xx series to
satisfy high-performance networked
audio/visual applications.
