High-speed image enhancement for digital and TV picture signals
Rohm Electronics has introduced two
ICs with integrated Adaptive Image
Enhancement (AIE) capability to
improve image clarity in TV and digitalcamera
applications. Rohm’s AIE
technology improves the visibility of
dark portions in high-contrast images
without increasing the overall
brightness of the image.
The BU1571KN provides a digital-camera input
supporting up to 2Mpixels, and applies AIE to
the received data. Selectable output formats
are UXGA resolution at 7.5 frames/s, SXGA at 15
frames/s or VGA at 30 frames/s. The BFU1571KN
is delivered in a 36-pin VQFN package with a
footprint measuring 6.2mm x 6.2mm.
The second chip with
built-in AIE is the
BU6520KV, a TV encoder
IC offering CCIR601/656-compatible inputs and
outputs. An analogue
composite video output
supporting PAL and NTSC
formats is also provided.
The BFU6520KV also
performs edge
enhancement and
gamma correction to
optimise image quality.
Major uses will be
restoring the black level
of moving images
displayed on LCD panels.
The device is delivered in
a 9mm x 9mm VQFP
surface-mount package.
