80C51-based design at six times the speed
NXP Semiconductors has added
another MCU to its range of 8051-compatible devices, offering
enhanced performance and an easy
upgrade path for existing designs.
The P89LPC954 is an 80C51-based MCU that
achieves six times the speed of the standard
core. It also provides advanced memory
capabilities and multiple power-saving
modes.
The accelerated two-clock CPU achieves
instruction cycle times from 111ns to 222ns,
except for the Multiply and Divide instructions,
when clocked at 18MHz. This means that
designers can improve execution speed for a
given clock frequency or reduce the clock to
save power without slowing the application.
Further enhancements include 16kbytes of
on-chip Flash code memory, supporting
serial In-System Programming (ISP) and In-
Application Programming (IAP).
Two different reduced-power modes plus an
idle mode enhance power efficiency. In total,
typical supply current in power-down mode
is reduced to 1µA.
