Consistent LED driver for automotive standards
Rohm has introduced an automotivegrade
LED driver for mid-sized LCD-backlighting
applications, providing
accurately-matched currents up to
150mA for repeatable and reliable
driving of four LED chains.
The BD8118FM features a 4-channel constantcurrent
driver with integrated power transistors,
which support PWM or analogue voltage control
of LED luminance. The on-chip boost converter is
regulated to minimise the voltage drop across the
current sources to maintain consistent brightness
at minimum power
dissipation. Added
features include an
external Enable pin
and a soft-start function
to eliminate overshoot.
The switching frequency
can be adjusted easily
with external resistors
and capacitors.
Comprehensive built-in
protection features
include Under-Voltage
Lockout (UVLO), overvoltage
protection, overcurrent
protection and
thermal shutdown.
