Audio-decoder IC family presses all the right buttons

Designers using Rohm MP3 audio decoders can now support playback of Windows Media Audio music by using the BU9437KV single-chip audio decoder.

The new device is pin-compatible with Rohm’s other MP3 decoders, allowing cost-effective differentiation throughout a range of end products, as well as a fast and lowcost upgrade path for existing product designs.

Rohm now offers three MP3 audio decoders, each having USB 2.0 full-speed capabilities as well as an I²C interface and support for analogue audio input or digital I²S, SPDIF audio inputs. Using these devices, designers can now support numerous endproduct applications and geographical regions cost-effectivley. The full line-up of Rohm audio decoders includes the BU9428KV with USB 2.0 full-speed interface and support for standard MP3 playback, the BU9435KV offering an additional SD card interface, and the BU9437KV that now adds support for WMA version 9 as well as combining USB 2.0, MP3- playback and SD card support. This combination of features enables automatic playback of MP3 and WMA files stored on USB or SD memory.
