Faster Touch-Sense Designs enabled by CapSense Express

CapSense Express™ from Cypress Semiconductor enables the fastest time to market for touch-sensing solutions, allowing designs to be completed in under five minutes for applications as diverse as consumer products, computation, domestic appliances, and automotive controls.

CapSense Express is the latest addition to Cypress’s CapSense™ capacitive touch sensing portfolio, powered by PSoC® mixed-signal array technology. CapSense Express touch-sensing controllers support up to ten general purpose I/Os for buttons, a multi-segment slider, LEDs, and other general purpose functions. With 1mA active current and a 2.6µA sleep mode, designers can add touch-sensitive buttons and sliders with minimal impact on overall power budget.

CapSense contollers are supported by the PSoC Express™ visual embedded system design tool and the CapSense Express configuration tool. To configure a touch-sensing solution using CapSense Express, designers simply select which function is needed for each I/O in the menudriven CapSense Express configuration tool. Parameters are tuned before programming the device, eliminating physical testing of individual adjustments and allowing designs to be completed quickly without having to write a single line of code.

In the end application, parameters can be loaded either from the controller’s on-chip Flash memory or via the I²C interface which is also provided.

Cypress has created three evaluation kits to accelerate design starts using CapSense Express. The CY3218-CAPEXP1 kit features three CapSense buttons, three backlighting LEDs, three LEDs for status and one mechanical button. The CY3218- CAPEXP2 kit offers a 5-segment slider with four status LEDs and one mechanical button. The CY3218-CAPEXP3 features two CapSense buttons with two status LEDs.
