20V-input converters reach 96% efficiency
austriamicrosystems has raised the
efficiency benchmark to 96% for stepdown
DC/DC converters suitable for use
with input voltages above 12V.
The AS1341 operates from an input voltage
between 4.5V and 20V, and can provide an
adjustable output voltage from 1.25V to the
input voltage or a fixed 5V output. The
maximum rated load current is 600mA.
A 100% duty cycle LDO mode with 250mV
dropout enhances efficiency when the input
voltage is within range of the output voltage.
Also, to maintain efficiency
under light-load conditions, the
device has a quiescent current
of 12µA. In shutdown mode,
current draw is reduced to
0.8µA, which enhances battery
life in portable applications.
By supporting switching
frequencies up to 200kHz,
the AS1341 can be used with
small-outline surface-mount
inductors and capacitors,
delivering board-space
savings in addition to saving
power throughout all
operating modes.
