Head-start for IEEE1588 real-time Ethernet development
The M5234BCCKIT evaluation module for
IEEE1588 Precision Clock Synchronisation,
incorporates the 32-bit MCF5234
ColdFire® MPU and free sample
application code.
Freescale Semiconductor’s M5234BCCKIT
provides help to engineers using the IEEE1588
Precision Clock Synchronisation protocol in new
or existing applications. Included on the module
is the National Semiconductor DP83640 Phyter
IC, which features full IEEE1588 hardware support.
A demonstration application using third-party
IEEE1588 software and TCP/IP stack allows
engineers to quickly begin synchronising remote
MCF5234-based networked devices with a high
level of precision.
By targeting the MC5234 MPU, this module
allows engineers to take advantage of the
device’s embedded Timer Processor Unit (eTPU),
which reduces load on the host CPU and
minimises set-up and service times for timer
events by accessing data independently. This
functionality delivers high performance in
networked industrial applications.
