System-on-chip enables universal remote controls
Zilog’s turnkey universal infrared
remote-control System-on-Chip (SoC),
allows designers to instantly add
remote control to any digital device.
The Zilog Crimzon™ RC Blaster™ SoC solves key
challenges when automating digitally-connected
environments such as homes and offices.
Advantages include an easy-to-implement API, as
well as coverage of European and American
Universal Infrared (UIR) databases for multiple
devices, with comprehensive key coverage for each
device. The large database of devices allows endusers
to set up equipment easily, which reduces
demand on call-centre support as products are
introduced to the market.
Other features include an integrated infrared
learning function with built-in amplifier, which is
capable of learning distances from zero to eight
inches using only one external infrared photodiode.
Development support for the Crimzon RC Blaster
includes a reference-design evaluation board and a
full set of support documentation. Each evaluation
board comes complete with an installation CD that
includes PC test suite software, as well as supporting
cables including a 9-pin RS-232 interface cable and
USB-to-serial adapter cable.
