High-end wireless enhances automotive and ISM applications
For enhanced reliability in wireless
communications, RF systems built using
the Melexis MLX71121 receiver IC
implement antenna diversity to select the
best signal from either of two antennas.
Until now, antenna diversity has only been
provided in high-end systems. Melexis has
now implemented two separate Low-Noise
Amplifiers (LNAs) at lower cost to create the
MLX71121, enabling improved performance in
cost-sensitive applications. The device can be
used in automotive environments, and is suitable
for many consumer and professional applications
in the unlicensed Industrial-Scientific-Medical (ISM)
and Short-Range-Devices (SRD) frequency bands.
The receiver covers a wide frequency range
from 300MHz to 930MHz, and dual-band design
allows the RF inputs to be switched between two
applications running in separate bands such as
433MHz and 868MHz.
Additional features include fully-internal FSK and
ASK demodulators, Automatic Frequency Control
(AFC) allowing tolerance of frequency
uncertainties in the input signal, and an on-chip
230kHz-bandwidth IF filter that eliminates external
filtering components.
