Context-switching transceiver consolidates multiple wireless functions
The MC33696 transceiver from
Freescale Semiconductor reduces
component count in designs
comprising more than one wireless
subsystem, by switching between two
different receiver configurations
without loading the host CPU.
The MC33696’s automatic context-switching
capability allows designers to consolidate
receivers in many applications. Examples
include vehicles featuring Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) as well as a wireless Tyre Pressure
Monitoring System (TPMS), where automatic
detection of an RKE or TPMS frame initiates
context switching without requiring CPU
involvement. The MC33696 achieves this
through integration of an independent onchip
data manager. Programming features
also support fast
switching between
receiver mode and
transmitter mode,
which allows this
multi-tasking to be
achieved transparently
to the end user.
Further features of
the MC33696 include
a programmable
fractional Phase
Locked Loop (PLL),
a Received Signal
Strength Indicator
(RSSI) circuit and a periodic wake-up timer.
Devices are available in a variety of packages
and operating-temperature ratings.
