Dual-frequency, dual-IF bandwidth receiver for robust communications
The Micrel MICRF218 receiver combines
the versatility of dual-frequency, dual-IF bandwidth operation with the
convenience of true RF-in/data-out
functionality as a member of the Micrel
QwikRadio® family. Only three external
components are required to build a
functioning receiver.
The MICRF218 is the world’s first integrated
ASK/OOK receiver with selectable dual IF
bandwidths for 300-450MHz operation.
Advantages include higher utilisation of the
receiver, as well as the ability to capture
signals from either high-performance or lowcost
transmitters, or to escape from a
jamming source by moving to an alternate
frequency. With the provision of an external
switch, the MICRF218 can accommodate two
reference crystals.
As a complete receiver on a chip, the device
provides built-in features including IF filtering
and image rejection, as well as post-detection
data filtering. Minimal programming enhances
ease of use, requiring only the data rate, codemodulation
format, and desired duty-cycle
operation to be determined. A choice of four
filter bandwidths, selectable externally,
allows the user to adjust the receiver
selectivity for optimal reception.
