Popular control MCUs overcome next-generation challenges
Freescale Semiconductor has enhanced
its MC9S08AC MCU family to satisfy
advancing demands from target
markets and help developers meet IEC
60730/EN 60335 requirements for
software safety in embedded control
systems.
New features of the MC9S08AC family
include an additional timer module and an
enhanced Computer Operating Properly
(COP) module with independent 1kHz
oscillator. Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)
capability enhances system integrity and
allows developers to meet the latest
software-safety standards. These advances
are combined with a wide operating voltage
range from 2.7V to 5.5V for applications such
as home appliances, motor controls, and
industrial equipment.
Analogue functionality is also increased,
with an enhanced 10-bit ADC delivering
typical accuracy of ±1LSB and providing
separate analogue-power and referencevoltage
domains. There is also an automatic
Compare function, as well as an asynchronous
clock source that can be used to run the
ADC when MCU clocks are turned off to save
power.
Each device provides multiple communications
peripherals and a range of system-security
features, including under-voltage detection,
Power-On Reset (POR) and security for both Flash
and RAM.
