Space-saving LEDs deliver more light for less energy

Rohm Electronics has doubled the brightness of LEDs when driven at 1mA, with the introduction of the SML-P11 PicoLED™-eco series in popular colours including red, orange, yellow and yellow-green.

The SML-P11 series consume only half the power of comparable LEDs in surface-mount packages when operated at equivalent brightness. This allows designers to achieve greater efficiency and longer operating lifetimes in portable and battery-powered equipment, and can also simplify thermal management.

In addition, these LEDs combine their high efficacy with ultra-small package dimensions of 1.0mm x 0.6mm footprint and 0.2mm height. This represents a 53% smaller footprint compared to surface-mount LEDs in the industry-standard 0603 package. These LEDs suit conventional indicator applications, and will enable small, thin, low-energy products that have historically proved impossible to develop. These will include 1.5mm-pitch high-density dot matrices and seven-segment light sources with 0.2mm font height.
