Meter shunts reduce resistance for higher accuracy



 


WSMS5515 Power Metal Strip® resistors from Vishay use a new manufacturing technology to combine ultra-low resistance values and 3W power rating within small component dimensions. The devices are optimised for metershunt duties in power-measurement equipment.

Available in resistances of 100µΩ, 160µΩ, 200µΩ, 250µΩ, 300µΩ and 500µΩ, the WSMS5515 resistors have standard dimensions of 55mm x 15mm and thickness up to approximately 1.5mm determined by resistance value. The four-terminal layout allows Kelvin connection in precision applications.

Performance advantages include inductance below 5nH enabling good frequency response to 50MHz, as well as thermal EMF of less than 3µV/°C for stable noise performance over a wide temperature range. The resistors also display a stable Temperature-Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) of ±225ppm/°C for values up to 250µΩ and ±175ppm/°C for the 300µΩ and 500µΩ versions.
