Single-chip resonant converter helps meet sub-1W standby power
The FSFR2100 Green FPS™ power
switch from Fairchild Semiconductor
reduces the environmental impact of
power supplies for consumer and
professional products by increasing
efficiency, saving components and
heatsinks and easing design.
The FSFR2100 helps designers implement
low-loss, high-frequency resonant converters
by integrating a Pulse-Frequency-Modulation
(PFM) controller, high-voltage gate driver,
two fast-recovery MOSFETs and protection
circuitry to save board space and part count.
All resonant converter topologies are
supported, including series, parallel and LLC
converter designs operating at switching
frequencies up to 300kHz.
Special features include pulse skipping at
light loads, enabling end products to meet
growing worldwide demand for sub-1W
standby power. Pulse skipping is invoked via an
external Control pin, which can also be used as
an on/off input and to trigger protection
modes.
By supporting Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS), the
FSFR2100 further improves efficiency and reduces
electromagnetic emissions to save heatsink and
filter requirements. The device can operate at up
to 200W without a heatsink.
