Motor-driver modules save space, boost efficiency
Fairchild Semiconductor has extended
its Motion-SPM™ Smart Power Modules
by adding three devices enabling
compact, energy-efficient inverter
motor drives from 50W to 125W.
The FSB50325S, rated to 250V, and the
FSB50250S and FSB50450S 500V-rated
devices enable designers to meet
ambitious low-power targets for motordriven
appliances within tight
restrictions on size and cost. Available
in 29mm x 12mm surface-mount
packages, these integrated devices
simplify design and accelerate time to
market.
Each module combines six fastrecovery
MOSFETs (FRFET®) with three
half-bridge gate drivers fabricated
using Fairchild’s High-Voltage IC (HVIC)
technology. Three divided negative
DC-link terminals are also provided,
allowing the devices to be used in
inverter current-sensing applications. This high
level of integration, as well as thermallyefficient
packaging, enables low losses and low
EMI to boost efficiency and reliability. The
integrated MOSFETs yield greater system
ruggedness and a larger Safe Operating Area
(SOA) compared to either IGBT-based power
modules or single-chip alternatives.
