Single-chip synchronous rectifier saves board space and energy
The Power-SPM™ FPP06R001 from
Fairchild Semiconductor® is a monolithic
synchronous rectifier that combines
integrated MOSFETs of ultra-low on-resistance
with superior gate-driver
circuitry to minimise MOSFET losses
and meet strict energy-saving
initiatives such as ENERGY STAR®.
By using the FPP06R001, designers will be
able to build power supplies that meet
forthcoming Energy Star requirements,
which call for operating efficiency above
88% under normal load conditions. Further
benefits include board-space savings, due to
compact package dimensions and reduced
requirement for external components.
Compared to discrete solutions, the
device eliminates up to ten discrete
components and reduces board space
by 20%. Stray inductance is also reduced
by 16%, saving thermal dissipation and
voltage stress.
The FPP06R001 can be used in the
secondary side of the PWM transformer
of forward- or bridge-type converters to
provide high-current rectification at
output voltages from 12V down to 5V.
Engineers also have the flexibility to
design the secondary side of powersupply
systems with reduced parasitic elements
to minimise voltage spikes and EMI.
