Enhanced processing and sampling for PSoC
A new addition to the Cypress PSoC® mixed-signal array
family is offering an enhanced ADC for fast analogue
sampling, and an expanded 8kb Flash memory for
complex algorithm processing. The PSoC mixed-signal
architecture integrates programmable analogue and
digital blocks with an 8-bit microcontroller, offering
designers flexibility. The new CY8C23x33 device features
an 8-bit Successive-Approximation (SAR) ADC to allow a
high sampling rate of 375Ksps. It offers 26 GPIOs to
deliver a premium level of configurability to quickly
adapt to changes in feature requirements. The device is
available in a 5mm x 5mm QFN package to minimise
board space.
Snubberless optocouplers simplify designs
The FOD420 and FOD4208, from Fairchild
Semiconductor®, provide designers with an easier
way to design motor control, power switch and lighting
control applications. These random-phase, snubberless
triac drive optocoupler products feature a built-in active
dv/dt clamp, providing noise immunity of 10,000V/µs,
compared to the average 1,500V/µs rating
of monolithic triacs. This performance eliminates the
RC snubber network required for lower dv/dt rated
monolithic opto triac drivers and saves valuable design
time. High noise immunity also makes these products
ideal for industrial environments.
MCUs offer emissions control technology
To help reduce automotive emissions that contribute to
the greenhouse effect and global warming, Freescale
Semiconductor has introduced a family of 32-bit
automotive MCUs with integrated emissions control
technology. These are designed to help improve the
efficiency and performance of small engines scaling from
one to four cylinders. These powertrain MCUs take
advantage of powerful Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
This enables engine designers to maximise fuel economy
and performance while minimising engine knocking,
resulting in a 3-5% reduction in CO2 emissions.
600V IC boosts motor-drive robustness
International Rectifier’s IRS26310DJPbF 600V three-phase
gate driver IC incorporates an integrated bootstrap diode
and offers a comprehensive set of protection features
including improved negative voltage spike immunity.
This protects the system from catastrophic events seen
during high-current switching and short-circuit
conditions. The IC integrates power MOSFET and IGBT
gate drivers with three high-side and three low-side
referenced output channels to provide 200mA/350mA
drive current at up to 20V MOS gate drive capability
operating up to 600V. An advanced input filter is also
integrated to reject noise and reduce distortion.
Micro-assemblies solve safety requirements
The PolyZen™ micro-assembly, from Tyco Electronics,
provides coordinated protection with a component
that protects like a Zener diode, but is capable of
withstanding very high power fault conditions
without requiring any special heat sinking structures
beyond normal printed circuit board traces. New
PolyZen devices are now available with higher hold
currents of 2.3A to help electronics manufacturers
meet safety requirements, and reduce warranty costs.
