On-chip LCD controller extends reach of ARM MCU family
NXP Semiconductors has extended its
LPC24xx family of MCUs based on the
ARM7TDMI-S core by introducing the
LPC2478 featuring strong peripherals
for point-of-sale, medical and
industrial applications.
By adding an LCD controller suitable for STN
and TFT graphic display panels up to 1024 x
768 pixels, and featuring hardware cursor
support, the LPC2478 can host a powerful
user interface in addition to the inherent
processing and networking capabilities of
the LPC24xx series. The LCD driver operates
from monochrome up to 24-bit true colour
and also supports Windows CE data formats.
The LPC2478 is founded on rich
connectivity, and includes a 10/100 Ethernet
Media Access Controller (MAC), a USB fullspeed
device/host/OTG controller, four
UARTs, two Controller Area Network (CAN)
channels, an SPI interface, two Synchronous
Serial Ports (SSP), three I2C interfaces, as well
as an I2S interface.
These interfaces benefit from extensive
memory resources, including 64kbyte local
SRAM, 16kbyte SRAM for Ethernet, 16kbyte
SRAM for general-purpose DMA and 2kbyte
battery-backed SRAM. An External-Memory
Controller (EMC) and 4MHz internal oscillator
are also included, allowing designers to
achieve high integration for portable devices
and POS equipment.
Developers can also take advantage of
512kbyte on-chip Flash memory, with
performance enhancements including
128-bits memory-interface width and an
accelerator architecture that permits
sequential instruction-execution from Flash
at the maximum 72MHz clock rate.
