32V converter saves board space, power and data
For systems requiring maximum uptime
and soft power-fail behaviour to protect
data integrity, the AS7620 DC/DC
converter from austriamicrosystems
features a low-power architecture and
indicates power-good and anticipated
power-failure conditions.
As the first step-down 32V converter to integrate
these important status outputs, the AS7620
enables designers to save board space by
eliminating the external comparators usually
required.
The converter’s low-power architecture achieves
a low current draw of 37µA when delivering
500µA of output current, or approximately 100µA
at 10mA output. This allows smaller hold-up
capacitors and extends battery life for portable
devices. A pin-selectable
peak-current limit also
allows the use of small
and low-cost inductors.
With a wide
operating voltage
range, from 3.6V to
32V, the AS7620 is
optimised for 24V
systems in medical and
industrial applications.
With 100% duty-cycle operation and low-dropout
capability, this converter keeps systems running for
longer until the supply voltage falls below its
preset power-good threshold of 90%.
Further features to maximise the operating
envelope of end-user equipment include 30µA
idle current, on-demand switching to maximise
efficiency at low operating currents, and a 1µA
shutdown mode.
