Latest ceramic PTC technology optimises protection for LED illuminations and leading-edge device designs
Two new ultra-compact
over-current protection devices using ceramic PTC
technology, unique to Murata, enable
reliable performance, resettable
operation, smaller dimensions and
simpler circuit design compared to
alternatives.
Two families of devices are available including
the PTGL series, which combines LED overcurrent
and overheating
protection capabilities in a single
device, and the PRG series for
general power- or signal-line
protection duties in a wide range
of applications.
The PTGL series performs the
duties of a current-limiting resistor
for LED-control circuits, and also
provides the opportunity to
implement over-temperature
protection by virtue of its positive
temperature coefficient.
PRG-series devices are
delivered in industry-standard
0603 or 0805 surface-mount
packages, and are typically
used to provide protection
against misconnection of power
or signal lines.
Unlike alternative protection
technologies such as fuseresistors,
active current-control
circuitry and chip resistors, these
devices combine the advantages
of resettable operation, a reducedcost
solution, and effective overcurrent
protection.
