Serial EEPROMs support one-wire bus for cost and complexity savings
Designers using EEPROM for non-volatile
storage can gain miniaturisation and cost
savings by using Microchip’s EEPROMs
featuring UNI/O technology.
UNI/O comprises a single-I/O bus and a patented
memory-device protocol allowing a single I/O
pin to support communication between the
EEPROM and the MCU. The benefits include
smaller, lower-cost EEPROM components, as well
as easier board layout and routing. In addition, a
smaller MCU can be used, which reduces overall
design size and delivers further cost savings by
allowing the use of a lower pin-count connector.
Designers can also gain the benefits of
advanced features previously only found on
larger or more expensive devices. These include
status registers, software-based write protection
for quarter-, half- or full-memory array, noise
filtering, and robust ESD protection for the
highest reliability.
Microchip’s UNI/O product range includes
EEPROMs in 1kbit to 16kbit densities in
economical 3-pin SOT-23 packages. Other
package options featuring higher pin counts are
also available.
The full UNI/O range includes ten devices
throughout the 11xx010, 11xx020, 11xx040,
11xx080 and 11xx160 families, featuring 1kbit,
2kbit, 4kbit, 8kbit and 16kbit densities
respectively.
