Six sensor inputs in one IC deliver ultimate flexibility and miniaturisation
Signal-amplification circuitry built into
the Semtech SX8724 sensor-interface
device allows direct connection to six
different types of sensors, delivering a
versatile sensor platform that designers
can use across a range of products.
Measuring 4mm x 4mm, the SX8724 is small
enough to be embedded within a sensor
enclosure, and allows electronics to be co-located
with the sensor to generate direct digital outputs.
A wide variety of magnetic, pressure or chemical
sensors are supported, including direct reading of
most Wheatstone Bridge sensors.
By incorporating Semtech’s ZoomingADC™
technology, the SX8724 integrates a 10-bit
preamplifier with a programmable gain of
between 0.1 and 1,000, as well as a 16-bit ADC.
The preamplifier delivers the highest gain on the
market giving designers the freedom to achieve a
given level of sensitivity using lower cost sensors.
A low operating voltage, combined with the
ability to optimise resolution, speed and current
independently, allow use with a single Li-lon
battery without losing 16-bit precision even when
the battery is depleted. The device operates from
2.4V to 5.5V, and typically draws 200µA for 16-bits
at 1kHz.
