Ruggedised Ethernet plug saves broken tabs

Rugged, field-installable modular plugs from Tyco Electronics save the system failures, down-time and repair costs incurred due to breakage of standard plastic plugs in harsh applications.

The Industrial Ethernet RJ-45 plug features a metallic locking tab and rigid plastic case that make the new plugs more rugged and less prone to failure than alternatives with more easily-broken plastic tabs.

The shielded connectors offer IP20 sealing and will mate with standard shielded or unshielded modular jacks. Insulation Displacement Connection (IDC) contacts allow a tool-less termination of either solid or stranded conductors for fast, straight-forward and reliable installation in the field.

The connectors meet the international telecom and networking standards EIA/TIA-568B and IEC 60603-7-1 for category 5e performance. Two configurations are available: a four-position version supporting data-transmission rates of 10/100Mbit/s and an eight-position version supporting 1000Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet links.
