Capacitor package innovation prevents surface arc-over
Vishay Intertechnology has released
the industry’s first surface-mount X7R
Multilayer Ceramic Chip capacitors
(MLCCs) with integrated technology
to prevent surface arc-over.
The new HVArc Guard® MLCCs (VJ0805, VJ1206,
VJ1210, VJ1808 and VJ1812) feature a unique, patent-pending
internal structure that prevents surface arc-over
at high voltages. This technology ensures that
the capacitor always performs its full protection and
filtering duties.
At the same time, smaller case sizes can be used
in high-volume products, delivering cost and size
savings. Higher capacitances can also be achieved,
compared to standard high-voltage MLCCs. The new
devices provide maximum capacitance in high-voltage
ratings and achieve higher voltage
breakdown than existing technologies.
The five HVArc Guard capacitors feature
capacitances ranging from 100pF to 0.27µF, with
voltage ratings from 250V DC to 1000V DC.. The
devices eliminate the need for conformal coating,
thereby saving assembly materials and build
complexity. As a further advantage, they can be
used as direct replacements for wire-leaded
through-hole capacitors.
