High-density nvSRAMs challenge Fast SRAM territories
Non-volatile SRAM (nvSRAM) combines
back-up protection with Fast-SRAM
performance, and Simtek is adding
high density to these advantages by
introducing the STK14EC8/16 and
STK14EE8/16 nvSRAMs in 4Mbit and
8Mbit densities respectively.
Four devices are available in
x8 and x16 data widths. The
8Mbit x16 memories also
provide a convenient building
block for 16Mbit nvSRAMs in
32-bit systems. The x8 products
are available in either 44-pin TSOPII or
48-pin BGA packages, while x16 devices are
offered in 54-pin TSOPII or 48-pin BGA. Read-access
and read/write cycle-time grades are
25ns and 45ns, and both commercial and
industrial temperature ranges are available.
nvSRAM devices replace fast SRAM in high-speed
processor systems. Advantages
include reduced wait states and optimal
performance, as well as the added benefit of
backup protection for critical system-state
information. Whereas traditional fast SRAM or
battery-backed SRAM solutions impose
constraints on designers, Simtek’s nvSRAMs
deliver unlimited read/write endurance,
automatic store on power-loss,
automatic recall on power-up
and unlimited recall
cycles.
