32-bit MCUs support touchscreen LCD and USB OTG
The MCF5227x 32-bit ColdFire MCUs from
Freescale Semiconductor introduce the
added advantage of an on-chip
touchscreen controller, to further extend
the capabilities of the integrated LCD
controller and connectivity peripherals of
the established MCF532x family.
The MCF5227x shares the same
LCD controller as the MCF532x
MCUs, but with modifications
to support single-screen
monochrome and colour LCD
panels up to a maximum resolution
of 4096 x 4096 pixels. The touchscreen
capability is implemented using an
8-channel, 12-bit ADC, which supports
resistive 4-, 5-, 7-, and 8-wire interface
touch-panels. An integrated reset
controller enhances security for mission-critical
applications.
The new family uses the ColdFire Version 2 CPU
core, capable of 152 MIPS at 160MHz. Alongside
this, an Enhanced Multiply-Accumulate (EMAC)
unit enables fast DSP and multiply operations, and
a hardware divide unit enhances numerous 32-bit
arithmetic operations. Integrated memory
comprises 8kbyte of on-chip cache and 128kbyte
of dual-port SRAM. A 16-channel DMA controller is
provided. In addition, a Cross-Bar Switch (XBS)
enables concurrent access to peripherals or RAM
from multiple bus masters. A Flexbus interface and
DDR/SDR SDRAM controller provide support for
external memories.
A USB 2.0 OTG interface with
integrated transceiver
supports industry-standard
point-to-point
connectivity up to
12Mbit/s.
A FlexCAN
(CAN 2.0B)
interface is also
integrated, as well as multiple
serial interfaces including three UARTS,
a DMA SPI (DSPI), and an I2C module. A
Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) provides audio
codec support.
