F-RAM-enhanced MCU drops into standard 8051-compatible sockets
The VRS51L3174 from Ramtron
International is an 8051-based MCU
featuring 8 kbytes of non-volatile
Ferroelectric Random Access Memory
(F-RAM), which can be deployed
directly in embedded designs
using industry-standard 44-pin
Quad Flat Package (QFP) sockets.
With the added advantage of F-RAM’s
high write speeds, low power
consumption and high endurance,
the VRS51L3174 combines 40MIPS
performance at 40MHz CPU speed,
DSP extensions incorporating a 32-bit
barrel shifter, 64 kbyte Flash with
in-system/in-application programming,
and 4 kbyte on-chip SRAM.
Integrated peripherals include a
hardware-based arithmetic unit, a JTAG
interface for Flash programming and
non-intrusive in-circuit debugging and
emulation, a 40MHz internal oscillator,
and a watchdog timer. Rich digital
peripherals, including an enhanced
and fully-configurable SPI bus, I²C
interface, dual UARTs with dedicated baud-rate
generators, three 16-bit timers, 8 PWM controllers
each with a 16-bit timer, and two pulse-width
counter modules, support communication and
control of external devices.
Development support is via the VersaKit-30xx
plug-and-play evaluation and development kit,
which includes a development board, USB-JTAG
programming/debugging interface, and
supporting software and documentation.
