Three-phase gate driver absorbs extra functions to cut size, cost and time to market
International Rectifier has included a
ground-referenced operational amplifier
in its IRS233x monolithic three-phase
gate-driver ICs, which brings analogue
feedback of bridge current onto the
chip to simplify design, reduce footprint
and save parts count.
In addition to the integrated op-amp, the Pumps, fans, HVAC systems
IRS233x also feature an on-chip bootstrap diode
for further board-space and component
savings. There is also comprehensive on-chip
protection, including proprietary negative
voltage-spike immunity for safe operation
under extreme switching conditions and short-circuit
events. Over-current detection, Under-
Voltage Lock-Out (UVLO), integrated dead-time
protection, shoot-through protection and fault
reporting are also provided. Complementing
these protection features, IR’s advanced high-voltage
IC process provides inherent electrical
over-stress protection and high field reliability.
The output buffer stage supports large pulse
currents and is optimised for minimum driver
cross-conduction. Matched propagation delays
simplify use at high frequencies. The floating
channel can be used to drive an N-channel power
MOSFET or IGBT in the high-side configuration.
