MCU Enables Consistent Control of 192 LCD Segments

Freescale’s MC90S08LL family is based on an 8-bit S08 architecture and offers 8kB or 16kB Flash variants with 2kB of SRAM.

This low-cost 8-bit family also features an LCD controller that can support up to 192 segments, with 3V or 5V glass, and up to 8 backplanes, which can be multiplexed with any front plane pins. An integrated charge pump operates in all stop modes, enabling the voltage supplied to the LCD glass to remain consistent while the MCU is in any mode. This LCD controller can also be configured to blink all LCD segments, or individual segments, in all modes, including stop mode. As well as LCD functionality and low-power features, the MC9S08LL family integrates peripherals such as I2C, SPI, SCI, an analogue comparator, an eight-channel 12-bit ADC and two-channel 16-bit timers. Additional protection features include low-voltage interrupt and an interrupt request manager.
