Wider-Input-Range Drivers for 1W to 5W High-Brightness LEDs

National’s LM3402/HV and LM3404/HV LED drivers offer the wider input voltage range required to power the 1W to 5W, high-brightness LEDs found in automotive applications, as well as general illumination.

These LED drivers provide a constant current to regulate the LED brightness and low feedback voltage to minimise power dissipation.

The LM3402 and LM3402HV are compact, constant-current buck regulators that drive up to 525mA of current with up to 95% efficiency. Offered in an 8-pin mini SOIC and PSOP-8 package, the LM3402 has an Enable pin that can also be used for dimming via Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) inputs and a reduced feedback of 0.2V for current sensing.

The LM3402‘s input voltage ranges from 6V to 42V extended to 75V for the HV version.

With a choice of 8-pin SOIC narrow or PSOP-8 packages, the LM3404 and LM3404HV share the same functionality as the LM3402/HV, but have the ability to drive currents up to 1.2A. These products are intended for 3W and 5W LEDs, respectively, at current levels of 700mA and 1A.
