Ultra-Violet LEDs Become Ultra Efficient

The UVxTZ series of Ultra-Violet (UV) LEDs provides an output between 10mW and 20mW while consuming only 15mA of current.

In addition, Bivar’s UVxTZ series has a rated operational life of 10,000 hours, which compares to typical operational lives of between 1,000 and 2,000 hours offered by other commercially-available devices.

The series is available in 3mm (UV3TZ) and 5mm (UV5TZ ) packages. Both packages are available with a 15º or 30º viewing angle and in four tightly-binned wavelengths of 390nm, 395nm, 400nm and 405nm, with a wavelength tolerance of ±2.5nm.

Each LED offers high resistance to shock and vibration, as well as an integrated Zener diode to enhance ESD protection.

One of the common applications of UV LEDs is the activation of fluorescent ink. UV LEDs are also found in a wide variety of industries such as automotive, medical, manufacturing and security, and low power consumption makes Bivar’s UV LEDs suitable for battery-operated devices.
