Power-Switch Family Protects USB Port Against Excess Current and Temperature
Diodes Incorporated has created the
AP21xx high-side power-switch range
for USB-port applications requiring fast,
accurate over-current and over-temperature
protection.
Offering designers 0.75A, 1.5A and 2.1A currentlimiting
options and a choice of active-high or
active-low Enable, the AP21xx optimises port
protection for power-providing USB sockets in a
range of electronic systems.
These USB power switches provide a cost-effective,
industry-standard, small-footprint
solution for USB ports. Both single- and dual-channel
power switches are
available, with all devices
optimised for self-powered and
bus-powered USB applications.
The power switches include
an internal sensing FET that
monitors for over-current
conditions without increasing
series resistance in the current
path. An over-temperature
sensor is also included. If
either over-current or over-temperature
conditions
are sensed, the device
automatically switches into its
current-limitingmode. To prevent
unwanted tripping when a high capacitive load is
connected to the device output, a 7ms de-glitch
time-out has also been integrated.
