600Mbit/s WLAN Reference Design Cuts Time to Market for IEEE802.11N Devices
For early completion of 600Mbit/s
WLAN access points using the latest generation
IEEE 802.11N wireless
standard, the Freescale Semiconductor
MPC8377EWLAN is a production-ready
Reference Design Solution (RDS) including
comprehensive hardware-design files,
Board-Support Package (BSP), source
code, and binaries to the application
software.
The MPC8377EWLAN implements an enterprise
wireless access point/router based on the
Freescale MPC8377E PowerQUICC™ II Pro
processor, which delivers high performance at
low power and low cost. The processor has
integrated hardware acceleration for wireless
security, and also implements a pair of Gigabit
Ethernet LAN/WAN interfaces. A USB2.0
host/device interface is also provided.
By using 3 x 3 Multiple-Inputs/Multiple-Outputs (MIMO)
architecture, the MPC8377EWLAN supports
a total of six antennas for optimum effective
range and speed. The device interfaces to
IEEE 802.11N radio modules via Mini PCI or
Mini PCI Express® modules provided in the
MPC8377E, and is also backwards-compatible
with IEEE 802.11a/b/g radios. Compatibility with
IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows
operation in 3 x 3 MIMO mode over a single
Ethernet cable.
